The practice
Services, fees, reimbursement, how to find us and how to make an appointment at the practice of Dr Linda Tamme in Vienna Leopoldstadt.
Dr. Linda Tamme is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics and runs her private (Wahlarzt) practice in Große Schiffgasse in the Karmeliterviertel, 1020 Vienna – a few minutes' walk from Schottenring, step-free with a lift to the first floor. The practice covers the full breadth of the specialty: contraception and coil insertion, care in pregnancy according to the Eltern-Kind-Pass, cancer screening, cycle and hormone disorders, fertility, genital infections, menopausal symptoms and a consultation for girls. Consultations can be held entirely in English.
Wahlarzt means: the practice has no contract with the public insurers. You pay the fee first and submit the invoice to your health insurer, which refunds 80 per cent of what the same service would have cost at a contracted doctor. The practical difference is time – a consultation lasts 25 minutes, and all examinations possible on site are included in the fee. What the individual services cost is listed under Fees; how the refund works in detail under Reimbursement.
Appointments are by arrangement only, currently by e-mail. What to include in your request and why is explained under Practical information; the way there is described under How to find us. The services in detail and the services and facilities – from the online calculators to the calendar file for the Eltern-Kind-Pass appointments – have pages of their own, as does Dr. Linda Tamme herself. If you have recently moved to Austria, the practical information page also explains how the system here works.

Frequently asked questions
Are all insurers accepted?
The practice is a private (Wahlarzt) practice without an insurance contract. You can submit the invoice to any Austrian public health insurer, which refunds 80 per cent of the corresponding public tariff. Anyone insured privately or abroad submits the invoice to their own insurer; the refund depends on that policy.
How do I get an appointment?
By e-mail to the practice, with your name, date of birth, the reason for the visit and times when you are available. Some examinations need a particular point in the cycle – so a sentence about the reason helps to find the right appointment.
What does a consultation cost?
250 euros for 25 minutes, all examinations on site included – consultation, gynaecological examination, ultrasound, wet mount. A coil costs 500 to 750 euros all-in. All amounts are listed under Fees.
Is the practice accessible?
Yes. A large lift goes to the first floor; the rooms can be reached without steps.
