Dr Linda Tamme
Specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology in Vienna’s second district. Private practice, focus on coil insertion, menopausal symptoms, cycle and hormone disorders, treatment in English.
Dr Linda Tamme is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology and runs her private practice in Vienna’s second district. Consultations can be held entirely in English if you prefer.
The practice
The practice is in Große Schiffgasse, in the Karmeliterviertel, a few minutes’ walk from Schottenring. Access is step-free, and a large lift goes up to the first floor.
The whole breadth of gynaecology is covered here: contraception and coil insertion, antenatal care with the examinations of the Austrian Eltern-Kind-Pass, cancer screening, cycle and hormone disorders, fertility, genital infections, menopausal symptoms and consultations for young women.
A private practice – what that means
The practice holds no contract with the Austrian public insurance funds; it is a Wahlarztordination. You pay the fee yourself and then submit the invoice to your insurance fund, which reimburses 80 per cent of what the same service would have cost at a contracted practice. What that means in detail is set out on the page Reimbursement.
The practical difference is time. A consultation lasts 25 minutes, and every examination carried out on the spot is included. With a coil insertion that is precisely the point.
A focus: coils
Having a coil fitted is often described as unpleasant. How unpleasant it actually is depends a great deal on how it is done – on how the cervix is prepared, on the timing within the cycle, on the diameter of the inserter, and on whether the person doing it takes their time. This practice is set up for that, and it is the reason many patients come here specifically for it.
All the usual devices are available: the small hormonal coils Jaydess and Kyleena, the larger Mirena with up to eight years in place, and hormone-free copper and gold coils. Which one suits which situation is shown by the coil comparison.
Treatment in English
Dr Tamme speaks fluent English. That is more than a footnote: gynaecology in particular deals with things that are hard to say in a foreign language. If you live in Vienna and German is not your language, this is a practice where the entire conversation can be held in English. The English pages of this website set out the essentials: Services, Fees, IUD & coils and Practical information.
